48-year-old Racine man arrested for 8th OWI after running red light

MOUNT PLEASANT -- A 48-year-old man from Racine was arrested Sunday night, Feb. 11 for OWI, 8th offense during a traffic stop.

According to police, officers conducted a traffic stop around 11:20 p.m. at STH 20 (Washington Ave.) and Oakes Road for a vehicle that ran through a red light.

During the traffic stop, it was determined that the driver was impaired and officers attempted to conduct standardized field sobriety tests -- but he refused.  A search warrant was obtained to collect the driver's blood for evidence.

It was later determined that the driver has been convicted of 7 prior OWI’s and was operating with a valid driver’s license.  He also had a restriction to not operate with an alcohol level more than 0.02% BAC.

The driver was arrested for: OWI 8th offense, violation of red light signal and operate motor vehicle without insurance. The charge were referred to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.

The driver was taken the Racine County jail.
