Mequon man arrested, suspect of OWI with a 5-year-old child in his car

MILWAUKEE -- Deputies with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office arrested a 36-year-old Mequon man after an incident that unfolded on northbound I-43 at Hampton Ave. on Friday, Feb. 16.

Officials say deputies responded to a two-car crash at the site around 8 a.m. According to witness accounts, a vehicle was traveling “all over the road and speeding” when it clipped the back of another vehicle and spun out into a ditch and struck a chain link fence.

Deputies determined the driver, the 36-year-old man, was impaired by both drugs and alcohol. He had a five-year-old passenger in the vehicle with him.

Officials say the Mequon man tested a .07 on a PBT. He could face a misdemeanor charge of OWI-1st with a Minor Child in Vehicle and Operating with Restricted Controlled Substance.

No injuries were reported in the crash. Child Protective Services responded and the child was picked up by a relative.
