Nicolet superintendent offers message in wake of Friday social media post, Tuesday rumors

GLENDALE -- Nicolet School District officials on Tuesday, Feb. 20 shared information regarding a post on social media made Friday, Feb. 16 by a Nicolet High School student. This, as a letter was issued to students, parents and guardians after rumors began swirling that there was a threat made Tuesday.

School district officials said on Friday, an anonymous report came in regarding a concerning social media post made by a student. Law enforcement officials determined there was no credible threat.

The report came through the "Safe Schools Anonymous Tip Line" on the school district's website. In accordance with school policy, the Glendale Police Department was contacted. The police department along with district administration interviewed the student involved and the student left campus.

School district officials said they're "continuing to monitor this situation closely," and  "the safety and security of our students and employees is always our top priority." They said in a statement: "Nicolet has a comprehensive plan and procedures in place to protect everyone."

Below is a letter issued to students, parents and guardians Tuesday:

"Date: Tue, Feb 20, 2018 at 11:40 AM
Subject: Message From The Superintendent

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

This morning, we are hearing that some of our students are texting and calling home regarding a perceived security threat directed toward Nicolet. Let me reassure you the administrative team and the Glendale Police Department have not identified any threat to Nicolet, our students, or to our staff. To be clear, we have no information that would suggest a discernible threat exists.

Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, the Glendale Police Department has increased their presence on campus.

Also, I would encourage students and parents to report any concerns directly to the District Office or the High School Office, rather than first sharing information on social media. Lastly, our student services office is diligently working to finalize action steps
designed to lessen the level of anxiety that clearly exists in our learning community.

Again, the school day will continue as normal, as no discernible threat exists.

Thank you.

Robert Kobylski, Ed.D.
Superintendent"
