Shooting near Bourbon Street and Fond du Lac Avenue

MILWAUKEE -- A man, 20, was killed and another was hospitalized after a double shooting on Milwaukee's northwest side. It happened Tuesday night, Feb. 27 near Bourbon St. and Fond du Lac Ave.

"It's hard to believe," said Lamonica Bush, friend of victim.

Bush said Wednesday she was trying to come to grips with Anthony Beard's death.

"You would never believe nothing like this for somebody you knew for so long," said Bush.

Bush's long-time friend was shot and killed in the double shooting. It happened just before 11 p.m. Bush and other friends were nearby as police gathered evidence.

"We were out here at the scene all night," said Bush.

Beard turned 20 years old just days prior. Bush said he was kind, vibrant and working to change his life.

"He had other plans and God had something better for him," Bush said.

Police said another 20-year-old was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound and is expected to survive.

While details are limited as to what led up to the deadly shooting, Bush said she believes it could have been prevented.

At last check, Milwaukee police are working to find at least one suspect. They're also seeking a motive.
