All internships listed below are non-paid. Proof of academic credit for internship is required. A letter confirming academic recognition must be established before starting the internship. Internships with WITI FOX6 Television do not lead to employment with this station or FOX Television Stations, Inc.

Qualifications for each internship area are listed. Applications/resumes for Fall Semester are accepted Summer through September, Spring Semester (January – May) are accepted November through mid January or start of the semester. Applications/resumes for Summer are accepted beginning February 15. Interviews for summer are scheduled beginning in March.

News and Contact 6 – Investigative Unit

Qualifications: Current enrollment in a college or university majoring in communications, journalism or related field. Prefer applicants with junior or senior status. Must have evidence of completing all basic journalistic writing and broadcasting courses. Ability to spend and commit a minimum of 20 hrs per week over a ten to twelve week period.

Web team

Qualifications: Web interns will assist the web team with daily operations. That includes editing video, writing and posting stories, managing content in the Tribune content management system, writing newsletters, sending e-mail alerts. Intern candidates must have a basic knowledge of print and broadcast newsroom standards and styles. Some knowledge of Photoshop and html a plus. Interns must also have excellent communication skills and be able to work under pressure.

Sports

Sports Interns will assist the sports staff with basic day to day operations. These duties include slating and editing tapes for both sports files and actual on-air. Sets up BNN lines (Badger News Network sister stations), answers and routes phone calls, and goes into the field with photojournalists to do stories and post game reports. Current enrollment in a college or university majoring in communications, journalism or related field. Evidence of completing basic journalistic writing and broadcasting courses. Junior and Senior status is preferred. Fox 6 provides extensive Packer football coverage and programming in addition to all pro and collegiate sports in the area. (Bucks, Brewers, Admirals-IHL hockey, Mustangs-Arena Football, Indoor/Outdoor Professional Soccer, Collegiate (Badgers, Marquette, State Schools) and High School sports.

Contact 6 – Consumer Unit

Learn how to research, write, and edit consumer stories. You will answer phones with an understanding ear, write letters with clear judgement, file correspondence and be someone who likes to help people. Current enrollment in a college or university majoring in communications, public relations or related field with junior or senior status desired. Must be willing to work with the public. Schedule is flexible, but hours are limited to 9am-6pm.

Television Production

Current enrollment in a technical school or college program majoring in television/film production techniques. Ability to spend and commit a minimum of 20 hrs per per week over a ten to twelve week period. Basic understanding of television production procedures and ability to physically move studio equipment.

Promotions/Creative Services

Interns will assist the promotion and graphics team by managing daily and weekly responsibilities such as, cataloging and editing promotion tapes, posting network spots, answering viewer calls and questions, writing for website and internet promotion and reviewing local media publications for station PR. Opportunities to take part in ongoing and developing projects such as voice talent, producing on-air promotion spots, assisting in production of remote shoots and writing on-air syndicated teases. Interns will be encouraged to participate in brainstorming sessions and interact with other departments throughout the station, learning how each unit works within the station and assisting them with projects. Candidates for this internship would be working toward a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Advertising with good oral and written communication skills and above average organizational abilities.(Other degrees will be considered on a case by case basis.)

Creative Services/Graphics

Intern will assist designers and Art Director with print, web and on-air graphics needed for promotions, commercials and newscasts. Graphics will be created using MacIntosh Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Go Live and Quark. Intern may have some time on Quantel Paintbox graphics system and After Effects animation software. Intern will gather video for daily news graphics and log tapes. Will gain knowledge of TV production process. May have the opportunity to take on additional projects and/or duties of the Creative Services department if time allows.

Qualifications: Current enrollment in a college or university majoring in graphic design, commercial art, communication design, illustration or related field. Must have demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Quark software.
