News
Assistant News Director. Do you understand the importance of crafting compelling local stories? Do you love to win? Do you understand why being a part of the community puts you in a position to win? This job is all about working in a multi-media world with on-air, mobile, online, and whatever else comes next. It is about leading a news department in producing good television. It’s about being a leader, inspiring people to do their best every single day in a team building environment – and holding people accountable when they don’t meet expectations. It’s about LOVING the news business!
WITI FOX6 produces over 55 hours of local news each week and just recently swept the Chicago/Milwaukee Emmy awards. We have an experienced staff of professional journalists and some of the best photojournalists in the country.
Our next Assistant News Director/News Content Manager must be a superb motivator and communicator in addition to a creative news strategist. You must have at least 5 years of news management experience and you must get excited about producing, about reporting, about storytelling, about creating compelling content across multiple platforms. Excellent communication and great time-management skills, a strong can-do attitude with a commitment to teamwork and an open and honest management style are all vital for success in this role. In addition to day to day supervision of the news staff you will assist the VP/News with budgets, hiring, reviews, and critiquing the news product, on-air and off-air personnel. We’re looking for a long-term player committed to the growth, care and feeding of FOX6 News. It means long hours but also lots of fun.
If you’re interested, send us your thoughts and philosophy on what makes a great newsroom even better. No phone calls, please – you’ll hear from us if we like what we see.
Experience: The successful candidate will have experience in managing a complex news operation, preferably with 5 years News management experience or equivalent, and a degree in Journalism or related field.
Producer. FOX6 is looking for a great newscast producer to join our team. We’re looking for someone who loves to create live, compelling television making use of all the production techniques for a great newscast. We’re a big shop that puts out a lot of news every day. We have all the newsgathering tools and place a premium on content and production techniques that are relevant and attract a diverse audience. Producing is not just about television anymore – it’s about all the unique channels available to us through social networking, online and whatever else comes down the road next. You need to embrace all of those things to be successful here. This position could be any shift on the schedule.
Requirements: You must have a college degree (and it must NOT be from a University of Mail Order!) with a minimum of two years producing experience working in a commercial television station. Hit us with your DVD or link to very recent work. If we like it, you’ll hear from us.
Photojournalist. FOX6 News is seeking a creative, multi-tasking photojournalist to join our team. Every day you will use state-of-the-art technology to shoot and edit the best HD-quality footage in town. You’ll collaborate with reporters, producers and managers to obtain the best visuals, the best “moments,” the best sound, the best news story. You’ll use live ENG/SNG/mobile gear, sometimes all in the same day! This is not a job for beginners – you need at least two years experience working in commercial television news. And if you’ve already been working in the biz, you know there’s no such thing as “9 to 5” so be prepared to work all different hours, days, shifts, and assignments. One day you might be covering the Green Bay Packers, the next you might be working closely with a reporter, live on the scene of a breaking news story, and the next day you’re solo, putting together a photo essay on a topic you found interesting and know will be great for air and online. A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. You must have a clean driving record (we will check!) and a Wisconsin Driver’s license. You must be physically able to lift, carry and handle camera gear, and deal with the realities of a Wisconsin winter or summer. So if you want to work at a place where hard work, a strong sense of team and creativity is rewarded, this is the place.
General Assignment Reporter. FOX6 News is seeking an aggressive, enterprising reporter to join our team. We have more news than any other television station in the state and need someone who is hungry and ready to get content on the air and online all the time. Developing sources and breaking stories is what it’s all about, you MUST be able to demonstrate how you juggle sources, work contacts and develop exclusive content. You must be able to demonstrate the stories on your resume reel are enterprised and not a handout from the assignment desk. If you need the desk or a newspaper for stories, we don’t need you here. These days being a great reporter includes using all the technology tools: online postings, social media, videography, and whatever gets invented next. You must have at least 5 years experience. You must be able to show your exceptional writing, story organization and live shot skills. Timid and bland won’t cut it here. You must be a team player who works well with photojournalists, editors, producers and mangers. Send along a DVD or hyperlink of your best and most recent work.
Creative Services
Creative Services Producer. Ready to put your creativity to work at a place where no two days are the same? Have you been at a news station for at least 3 years? Then FOX 6 is looking for YOU! You might be writing compelling news teases one day and then shooting an image promo with a Canon 5D Mark II the next. You’ll edit using After Effects/Final Cut Pro/Motion, shoot more stuff with XDcams, and be exposed to some pretty amazing automation systems for ingesting, scheduling and maintaining our promo inventory. You could get bonus points for using our jib! You’ll work closely with news, sports and you’ll be no stranger to the general manager (who loves the jib). Camaraderie is key for our team – and not everyone will fit in. It’s the kind of job that pushes you to push yourself to the next level. So, if you’re intrigued and capable send in your resume with samples of your work. We’re looking for someone that breaks the mold at a station that does the same!
Requirements: You need a minimum of three years experience at a news station and must be able to edit with After Effects / Final Cut Pro.
