Burlington High School earns concert by American Idol Scotty McCreery

Burlington High School entered FM 106.1's Toys for Tots contest, and won, by collecting 2,700 toys in just five days! They were rewarded Monday with a concert from reigning American Idol Scotty McCreery, held at the school.

Burlington High School student Bianca Clayton and a teacher, Ms. Cleaver, entered the school in the contest, and the school was picked as one of five high school finalists. Out of the five finalist schools, nearly 10,000 toys were collected for children of needy families.

"They wanted to see Scotty, but it's nice to see high school kids come together and do that, especially to get the reigning American Idol champion here. That's incredible," Radar with the FM 106.1 morning show said.

For some students at Burlington High, Monday marked their first-ever concert experience, and to have THE American Idol in their school, was pretty special. One of the students even got a special birthday present, when McCreery sang "Happy Birthday" to her.

"They were good, they were a great crowd - one of the better ones I've played in awhile. I kinda was in their element, too, because I'm still in high school and I know where they're coming from being there," McCreery said.
