College Avenue near airport reopening after two years of tunnel construction

College Avenue is reopening near Mitchell International Airport Friday after two years of construction.

College  Ave. was shutdown in 2009 to undergo construction. It will reopen Friday, county officials will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. just east of the airport runway overpass.

College Ave. now contains four lanes, a roundabout, sidewalks, and a 640 ft. tunnel that will shield cars from runway.
Officials say this rebuild will be the new front door to the Milwaukee Regional Business Park and will help connect the Cudahy, Milwaukee, Oak Creek, and South Milwaukee communities.
