Church organizations provide Thanksgiving outreach meal

Volunteers from church organizations throughout the metro Milwaukee area joined The Word is God Worship Center to provide a free Thanksgiving meal and fellowship for guests they treated like royalty Thursday. The doormat was out for anyone looking for a good Thanksgiving meal, and good fellowship with people who care.

Royce Davis has been homeless for about 10 months, and he was happy for the outreach, and thankful they could provide a warm meal and good conversation. "This is just awesome for them to get together and invite strangers into the house and feed them, clothe them, give them prayer, give them what they need," Royce said.

Volunteers say they treat their guests like royalty, and not only serve them with food, but also good conversation and a lot of listening. One volunteer says the hope is that guests will leave feeling important, encouraged and empowered.

The volunteers say they get just as much out of helping those less fortunate, as the guests who showed up for a warm meal. "It makes me feel proud that I'm serving people, to help people, to give them food," volunteer Caleb Neal said.

The Word is God Worship Center has been providing Thanksgiving meals for more than 20 years.
