Holiday shoppers out in full force this weekend

GLENDALE -- Christmas is just one week away, and the holiday shopping season is still in full swing, but it's crunch time, and this weekend, shoppers were fighting the calender, the clock, and the crowds!

Shoppers were out in force Sunday at Bayshore Town Center in Glendale. Jeff Pearce is in town from Atlanta, Georgia, and says he's usually a last minute shopper, but says his wife is an early shopper, so they work as a team to get it all done on time.

A recent National Retail Federation survey says the average American has finished far less of their holiday shopping this year, than in previous years. Experts say that could be an indication that many shoppers spent money on themselves in November, and have plenty of holiday shopping left to do.

Many stores are still offering deep discounts, and retailers hope sale signs posted in store windows will attract shoppers. "I just love the word 'sale,' and 'free,'" shopper Katie Zitzer said.

The National Retail Federation expects holiday sales to rise 3.8 percent this year to a record $469.1 billion.
