Family raises money to provide vest for K9 officer

Dodge County Sheriff Deputy Paige the dog received an early Christmas present from one four-year-old girl and her family. Sheriff Deputy Chad Enright said, "This dog was sworn in with the sheriff as a deputy just like any other deputy that's working here."

It's not all fun and games for Paige as she is put in dangerous situations, finding missing people and illegal drugs. She also not wearing a protective vest. " Each one of us that go out into a squad car don't go out without a vest so it's nice to have our partners," Enright says.

Four-year-old Sophie Mordecai and her family stepped in to provide some protection. Tanya Mordecai told FOX6, "We basically were looking for a project that she would be able to help out with to give back to the community."

The Mordecai's collected 1,200 pounds of cans through various businesses as well as their daughter Sophie's Daycare.

For Sophie Mordecai's efforts in making the community and law enforcement better, Sheriff Todd Nehls gave her the Sheriff's Coin.

According to Wisconsin Vest A Dog, there are still 15 canine officers without a vest. They're always looking for donations to change that.
