Man accused of hitting 82-year-old woman with car in court

PORT WASHINGTON -- The man accused of driving drunk, and hitting a woman, then fleeing the scene waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday.

Police say 55-year-old Kevin Brown of Port Washington was reaching for his electronic cigarette when he hit 82-year-old Dolores Kopacz on County Highway KK in Port Washington around 7:00 a.m. on December 19th. Kopacz told police she was out for a walk. Officials say Kopacz was wearing a red flashing bicycle reflector on the front of her coat when she was hit. Kopacz was transported to St. Mary's Ozaukee Hospital via ambulance, and then transferred to Froedtert Hospital via Flight for Life.

Police say Brown pulled over briefly, panicked and drove off. He later turned himself in to police.

Brown's bail was set at $75,000. He's charged with hit and run, and injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
