Wave beat Rochester Lancers, 8-0 is best start in franchise history

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Wave’s 10-6 win over the Rochester Lancers ties the Wave for their best start in franchise history at 8-0. The only other time that the Wave started 8-0 was in the 2005-2006 season.

The Milwaukee Wave continued their winning streak on just their second road game of the season. Five players scored for the balanced Wave attack. Marcio Leite set up an easy goal for Greg Howes as the Wave got on the scored first. Jonathan Greenfield added the only other goal in the first period giving the Wave a 4-0 lead. The Lancers scored quickly in the second quarter with a Gary Boughton goal. Leite’s far post goal was followed by a Nick Perera goal giving the Wave a 8-2 lead. Boughton ended the half with his second goal of the night bringing the Lancers to within 4 at half time.

The Lancers quickly closed the gap in the second half to within 2 points with a goal by Jeremy Ortiz. The Wave’s strong offensive restarts positioned Joe Hammes to shoot a bullet into the back of the net giving the Wave a 10-6 lead. Both teams turned up the intensity and defense in the 4th quarter as both teams were held scoreless.

The Milwaukee Wave plays next on Saturday, December 31st at 2 p.m. at the US Cellular Arena. The Wave looks to record the best start in team franchise with a win against their rival, the Baltimore Blast.
