BROWN DEER -- Students at Dean Elementary School in Brown Deer, and Brown Deer High School returned to their classrooms Monday, after two people were arrested over the weekend for break-ins causing damage at both schools.

Officers were sent to Dean Elementary School after a burglar alarm was triggered just before 4 a.m. While officers were investigating at Dean, a burglar alarm went off at Brown Deer High School about 4:05 a.m.

Though Brown Deer police won't confirm it, Steven Baughman believes he witnessed the arrests of two people in connection with the continuing burglary investigations early Saturday morning. Baughman said the loud noises outside his residence, coming from Brown Deer High School across the street woke him up. "The first thing I'm hearing is, 'step out of the car with your hands up - my weapon is drawn,' and I'm like 'now I'm awake!'" Baughman said.

Brown Deer Schools Superintendent Deb Kerr says she believes the suspects went from Dean Elementary School to Brown Deer High School, and sounded the alarm at both schools. "At Dean Elementary, the main damage is at the main entrance door, and was limited to the main office area. At the high school, damage was a little more extensive. They had broken several doors and windows to gain access to offices and other areas," Kerr said.

Kerr says she does not believe any items were stolen, and that student activities are not affected, but says cleanup and subsequent repairs will take some time. Kerr says this is an isolated incident, and believes the school district has good security measures in place.

A damage estimate has not yet been released, but Kerr says the school district has contacted its insurance company.
