Wis. athletic official resigns amid allegation

MADISON (AP) -- The University of Wisconsin-Madison placed a senior associate athletic director on administrative leave Friday after learning of an allegation of misconduct against him, and he resigned later in the day, the school said Saturday.

A university official declined to discuss the nature of the allegation against John Chadima, who worked at the school for more than 20 years. The chancellor has initiated a campus review of the matter, said Vince Sweeney, the vice chancellor for university relations.

"I really don't have any additional details to share,'' Sweeney said. "We learned of an allegation by a member of the staff and we followed up. That's really all I can say.''

When asked whether there was just a single allegation or multiple ones, Sweeney said he had no other details to share. A message left at Chadima's home was not immediately returned.

University police Sgt. Cherise Caradine told The Associated Press she wasn't immediately aware of any investigation involving Chadima. Nor did his name show up in a search of online court records Saturday.

Chadima's position within the UW Department of Athletics was administrative and he wasn't directly involved with sports teams, Sweeney said.

The athletic department's website says Chadima was in charge of managing capital projects and supervising staff members. He also had administrative oversight of the football program and men's and women's golf and rowing programs.

Chadima played a key role during the recent renovation of Camp Randall Stadium. He also served as the school's director of football operations from 1990 to 1997 and again from 2000 to 2003. In that role he coordinated team travel, scheduling and preseason training camp.
