Kou Yang faces charges in Sheboygan Walmart shooting

SHEBOYGAN -- 21-year-old Kou Yang is charged in Sheboygan, accused of shooting two men at a Walmart on Sunday, January 8th. 20-year-old Pheng Lee, a UW-Milwaukee student, was killed. Another man was wounded in the incident.

Inside the courtroom Thursday, security was tight. Yang, a man with possible gang ties, appeared on a video monitor from the jail. He's charged with first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree reckless injury and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The criminal complaint does not outline why Yang was out to get one of the men in the group at the Walmart.
However, it says Cheng Lung Moua summoned his brother to Walmart after seeing Yang in the store. Moua's brother, Lee and another man arrived and approached Yang in the parking lot. Moua told police he was going to tell Yang to leave him alone. Prosecutors say store surveillance video shows Yang opening fire. Moua fell to the ground and was wounded. Lee was also shot as he tried to run away, and later died.
Yang remains in jail on a probation hold from a previous crime on $750,000 cash bail. He faces more than 100 years in prison if convicted.
