Pedestrian struck, killed near 33rd and Villard

MILWAUKEE -- A woman was killed Wednesday evening after being hit by a car near 33rd and Villard. Milwaukee police were called to the area a little before 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, and say they found the woman's body in the middle of the street, and it appeared she had been struck several times.

Milwaukee police are looking for the driver who struck the woman as she crossed Villard Avenue on the city's north side. "We do have some autos on scene that remained. We are searching for a striking auto, and at this time, I have no information available," Milwaukee Police Lt. Heather Wurth said.

Police have no description of the vehicle. They say the woman lived in the area, but won't release her identity until family is notified.

The manager of JJ's Fish and Chicken on Villard says he knows the woman, and says she may have been walking toward his restaurant. He says the woman was hearing impaired, but police haven't yet confirmed that. "I looked through the window, and I saw something laying down. I noticed she was one of our customers to the store, and to the restaurant where I work. I'm very sad to see the loss of human life, like her," Joe Abutoin said.

Police had two blocks of Villard shut down, and the area remains taped off.

The manager of JJ's Fish and Chicken says he feels there are problems with drivers speeding on the stretch of roadway. Police say their investigation is ongoing.
