Wave bounce back to beat Wings, 9-6

The Milwaukee Wave bounced back from just their second loss of the season Friday night to win in Wichita 9-6. The Wave improves to 12-2 record and sits atop the Central Division. The Wave’s defense led by goalkeeper, Marcel Feenstra, held the Wings scoreless in the first half and held off the rally in the second half.

The Milwaukee Wave got on the board first as Greg Howes tapped in a great pass from Marcio Leite for the first goal of the game. Giuliano Oliviero then scored giving the Wave a 4-0 lead at the end of the quarter. The Wave applied defensive pressure and goalkeeper, Feenstra, had 12 saves in the half holding the Wings scoreless. The Wave went into the halftime with a 4-0 lead.

The Wings fought back and scored first in the second half with a Bryan Perez goal cutting the Wave’s lead in half. The Wave respond immediately as Joe Hammes struck with a 3-point goal with Ian Bennett recording the assist giving the Wave a 7-2 lead. Wichita once again closed the gap with a goal by Bryan Beasley. The Wings received the first and only powerplay of the game as Jonatan Santos was sent to the penalty box for tripping. The third quarter expired with the Wave leading 7-4. The teams exchanged goals within the first 30 seconds of the fourth quarter. The Wings capitalized on the power play with an Edvin Worley goal. The Wave once again scored immediately off a restart with Greg Howes recorded his second goal of the night giving the Wave a 9-6 lead. Although the Wings added a sixth attacker the Wave were able to hold off Wings and win the game 9-6.

The Milwaukee Wave plays on the road in Wichita on Thursday before returning home on January 29th.
