Dolphins hire former Packers coach Sherman as coordinator

MIAMI (AP) -- The Miami Dolphins have hired Mike Sherman as offensive coordinator and Kevin Coyle as defensive coordinator, moves that bring nearly seven decades of coaching experience to the team's staff.

The team announced the moves Friday.

Sherman was most recently the coach at Texas A&M, which was preceded by a six-year stint as coach of the Green Bay Packers -- where new Dolphins coach Joe Philbin worked for him. The 57-year-old Sherman was once Philbin's high school English teacher as well.

The 56-year-old Coyle has been a coach in Cincinnati since 2001, serving the last nine of those years as the Bengals' defensive backs coach. He also has been a defensive coordinator at the college level at schools including Syracuse, Maryland and Fresno State.
