MCTS set to offer three new bus routes starting Sunday

MILWAUKEE -- Bus riders will have three new options to help them get where they're going on Milwaukee County buses. The Milwaukee County Transit System will begin offering the BlueLine, RedLine and GreenLine on Sunday. CLICK HERE for new route information.

The organization says the routes will help it better meet the needs of bus riders. The GreenLine runs between Bayshore Mall and the airport. The RedLine runs down Capitol Drive and even makes a stop at UW-Milwaukee. The BlueLine runs on Fond Du Lac Ave. and down to National Ave. To see the exact route, click on the names above.

MCTS Spokesperson Jacqueline Janz says it's called an express service route because the buses have limited stops. "This is one way that we are able to creatively keep the majority of the service out there, while we still had cuts from the state. We're happy to be here, and we're happy to have our service. It's going to be different, and we think people are really going to like it" Janz said.

The Milwaukee County Transit System says it was able to prevent drastic service cuts because of $19.1 million in grants. "To be clear, we've got a temporary solution.  This buys us two years, this grant money, and we're already working on a more permanent solution, but at least in the meantime, people can get to work and school," Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said.
