Alleged drunk driver found sleeping in vehicle on freeway

MILWAUKEE -- A 30-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested by Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies after he and a passenger were found sleeping inside a vehicle parked in a lane of traffic on the freeway.

The man was found by Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday on I-43 NB near Hampton Ave.

According to the deputy, both of the vehicle's occupants were sleeping inside the vehicle when he approached. The car was in park, with the engine running and headlights on. The deputy woke the driver and moved the vehicle out of traffic.

Deputies say the driver, Demetrius Brown, failed field sobriety tests and was uncooperative. Brown had three prior convictions and did not have the required ignition interlock device installed on his car, and his license had been revoked.

Brown faces a felony charge of fourth OWI within five years. If convicted, he could face up to six years in jail. He is also charged with Refusal and was issued citations for Failure to have an Interlock Device, Operating After Revocation and Impeding Traffic.
