Romney wins Maine caucuses

(CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won Maine's GOP presidential caucus on Saturday, the chairman of the state's Republican Party announced, helping him rebound from a trio of embarrassing losses earlier this week.

Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who has been campaigning in the state regularly in an effort to win his first GOP presidential race, came in second with 36% of the vote to Romney's 39%.

Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania -- who won contests in Colorado and Minnesota, as well as a non-binding primary in Missouri, on Tuesday -- had not campaigned in Maine, nor had former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Santorum came in third with 18% of the vote, while Gingrich came in fourth at 6%.
