Man arrested after four killed in Fitchburg rollover crash

FITCHBURG -- Police say an 18-year-old driver is facing four charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle after a rollover crash in Fitchburg early Sunday morning.

Police say the crash occurred when the driver sped through a stop sign and hit a utility pole, causing the vehicle to roll. All four passengers were ejected from the vehicle, and police say none were wearing their seatbelts. Three of them died at the scene, and a fourth died later. Police say all passengers were men in their late teens or early 20s. Their names have not yet been released.

Police say the car was eastbound on Lacy Road when it went through a stop sign, hit railroad tracks and a utility pole, then rolled.

The driver fled the scene and was arrested a few blocks away.

Police say speed and alcohol were factors.
