25 vehicles fall through Lake Winnebago during fishing tourney

OSHKOSH -- 25 trucks and SUVs had to be pulled out of Lake Winnebago after thin ice broke, sinking the vehicles.

Officials say ice fishermen ignored the repeated warnings of officials, and paid the price.

Despite a week of freezing or near freezing temperatures, ice is not safe in Wisconsin.

Fishermen from around the state were lured to the lake in Oshkosh by a walleye tournament and $100,000 in prize money. However, the ice couldn't handle the weight.

Some people had to jump out to keep from going in with their vehicles. About 25 vehicles had to be dragged out of the water, and several are totaled.
