Woman arrested for OWI after driving vehicle onto Pewaukee Lake

PEWAUKEE --  A woman was taken into custody for an OWI after driving her vehicle onto Pewaukee Lake from a boat launch.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to Rocky Point Road in the city of Pewaukee early Monday morning after a nearby homeowner reported a vehicle had broken through the ice and was partially submerged in Pewaukee Lake.

Once Waukesha police arrived on scene they verified that there were no other occupants in the vehicle. EMS personnel from the City of Pewaukee Fire Department also responded to the scene to check on the condition of the operator. The operator was uninjured.

The initial investigation reveals that the operator drove a 2005 Acura onto the lake from a boat launch and proceeded to drive along the edge of the lake until the vehicle broke through the ice, and began to sink.

The driver was able to exit the vehicle independently and make it to a nearby residence, making contact with a homeowner.

Waukesha police say the driver was taken into custody for a first offense OWI.
