Highland pedestrian bridge open in downtown Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- The Highland pedestrian bridge is once again open for foot traffic as of Thursday morning.

The bridge had remained in the open position since February 15th.  During the opening on that day, the bridge encountered an emergency stop due to a pedestrian passing through the gates and onto the bridge.

The failed hydraulic operating valve was repaired and returned to the Department of Public Works this week for installation.

Minor system control issues are still being resolved, but the bridge was able to be lowered to the closed position.

City crews may be operating the bridge structure during the day to resolve system control issues.

Additionally, the expected river deliveries for the Juneau Bridge construction project were completed this week, which also allowed the bridge to be lowered.
