Waukesha investigators need help to identify armed robbery suspect

WAUKESHA -- The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department is looking for your help to identify an armed robbery suspect.

Police say the suspect robbed the Quarry Mobile Mart in Sussex with a sawed-off shotgun under his coat shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd.

The owners of the Quarry Mobil Mart say they were faced with a situation they never thought they would face, after owning the gas station for nearly two decades. They didn't want to be identified when speaking with FOX6 News Thursday, but they say their son was working the night the robbery happened. "I was really devastated. I can't get over it, still. I couldn't see the video. Even my customers, when they see the video, they cry," Quarry Mobil Mart's owner said.

One of the owners said her son was in shock when he heard the suspect's demand for money. "You have to open the cash register and you have to give me the money. What do you want, your life or the money? Then, my son noticed that he was serious about it, so he opened up the cash register and gave him the money," Quarry Mobil Mart's owner said.

Now, as the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department is releasing the surveillance video and photos of the suspect, they are asking for your help in identifying him. "In any type of armed robbery, these are dangerous individuals, and we want to get them into custody as soon as possible," Waukesha County Sheriff's Detective Steve Pederson said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 5'10" to 5'11" tall, in his mid-40s with a weathered, acne-pocked face. He was wearing a denim coat, blue jeans, tan boots and Oakley style glasses. The suspect spoke without an accent. See more pictures of the suspect below.

The owners say they also believe there was a getaway driver, and that both people taunted them as they drove off. "A car was waiting for him by the driveway next to us and picked him up, so on the way back, they put the windows down and they were shouting 'we got you' and 'we got your money,'" Quarry Mobil Mart's owner said.
