17-year-old wrong-way driver smashes into trooper's squad

WAUKESHA -- An alleged wrong-way driver crashed into a squad car on the southbound ramp of Highway 41 near Waukesha Friday night, March 9th just after 6:30 p.m.

Police say a trooper tried to pull over a speeding car, but the car failed to stop. Police say the driver was traveling at 85 miles-per-hour.

When the driver tried to exit at Highway Q, he attempted a right turn at the top of the ramp and hit a car traveling westbound. The driver's vehicle then spun around, facing the wrong direction, and accelerated northbound down the southbound off ramp towards oncoming traffic. That's when the driver smashed into the officer's marked vehicle.

The vehicle proceeded down the ramp and made a U-turn onto southbound Highway 41 where, eventually, the driver slowed down, and police caught up with him.

Three 17 year old males were taken into custody. The two passengers were questioned and released to their parents, and the driver was transported to the Washington County Sheriff's Department where charges of fleeing and eluding, recklessly endangering safety, possession of drug paraphernalia, minor transporting alcohol, hit and run, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and speeding will be referred to the Washington County District Attorney's Office.

Officials say no one was injured during this incident.
