Racine police increase drunk driving patrols for St. Pat's Day

RACINE -- Racine police are stepping up drunk driving enforcement because of the St. Patrick's Day holiday. The department hopes to prevent drunk driving fatalities, and increase safety belt usage during this uptick in enforcement.

Officials with the Racine Police Department say they want the public to know this isn't about writing more seat belt tickets or making large amounts of drunk driving arrests. They tell FOX6 News they just want to prevent drivers from hurting themselves and others.

This increased enforcement is made possible by a $60,228 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
