Fond du Lac police officer resigns after drunk driving arrest

FOND DU LAC (AP) -- A Fond du Lac police officer who was arrested last month for drunken driving and hit-and-run has resigned.

The police department says an internal investigation found a number of "possible serious violations'' of department policies.

Police Chief Bill Lamb says that after he reviewed the outcome of the investigation with the officer, the officer said he would resign.

The department declined to comment on the investigation due to pending charges against the 34-year-old officer.

The 12-year veteran is accused of colliding with a parked car and fleeing while he off-duty last month. Blood tests indicated a blood-alcohol content nearly twice the legal limit.

Lamb says the officers alleged actions were disappointing on a number of levels.

The resignation was effective Thursday.
