GAB lands $1.9 million grant to make overseas voting easier

MADISON (AP) -- Wisconsin state elections officials have received a $1.9 million federal grant to develop an online system to make it easier for military and overseas voters to cast their ballots.

The Government Accountability Board received the grant earlier this month and discussed it at its meeting Tuesday. The goal is to develop a system that will allow military and overseas voters to access an online ballot immediately without having to wait for a reply from an election official.

The ballots would still be mailed back once completed.

The board plans to use the money to develop the online system. Once it is determined to be working, the online services are to be made available to any eligible military or overseas voters who request to vote absentee in federal elections.
