Crews plan to replace Becher Street bridge with asphalt ramp

MILWAUKEE -- Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials say they will move forward with a plan to demolish the Becher Street on-ramp bridge to I-43/I-94 northbound in Milwaukee County.

The bridge was closed early last week after a concerning bridge inspection.

Crews plan to remove the bridge structure and replace the structure with a new asphalt ramp. Preliminary cost estimates are under $1 million.

The ramp, which serves 5,000 vehicles per day, will remain closed until the project is complete. Crews hope to have the project finished by the end of April, weather permitting.
