De Pere wins WIAA Division 1 state championship

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Senior center Emma Konopasek scored a team-high 21 points and junior guard Morgan Anderson added 13 points as De Pere held off a late rally to defeat Milwaukee King 60-57 in the WIAA Division 1 girls basketball state championship game.

The Redbirds (24-4) held off a charge from the Generals (21-7) Saturday over the game's final four minutes in order to capture their second title since 2005.

King cut what had been a 10-point De Pere lead with 3:49 to play to two points on three instances over the game's final 43 seconds, but was unable get any closer.

Senior guard Alexis Eckles scored 22 points and senior forward Avyanna Young added 13 to lead Milwaukee King.
