Heritage Christian wins first state championship

MADISON-- Heritage Christian almost didn't exist as a school this year, but today the girls basketball team delivered the first ever state championship to the Patriots. A dominating performance from the tip had coach Terry Bennett, (3rd year, 62-11), and his team lifting the WIAA Division 5 gold ball after dismantling Owen-Whithee, 79-51.

The Patriots led 20-15 after the 1st quarter, extending their lead to 40-25 at half. The key was constant pressure, delivering 17 points off 17 turnovers. When the final buzzer sounded, Heritage Christian had forced 31 BlackHawks turnovers to just six of their own give-aways.

The Patriots were led by Jazmine Harris with a game high 17 points, while Moriah Begin added 15.

The 79 points scored by the Patriots is the most ever in girls state championship history, any division. Heritage Christian finishes the season 24-4 ,Owen-Whithee 25-4.
