Man charged with false recall petition signatures headed to trial

RACINE —  Mark Demet, the Racine man accused of falsely writing in signatures on a petition to recall Wisconsin State Senator Van Wanggaard will face trial. Demet was in court Thursday, March 29th for his preliminary hearing, which he waived.

59-year-old Mark Demet faces nine felony charges, including election fraud.

Police say Demet admitted circulating the petition and signing the names of seven people on it. One was the name of his neighbor, and some were names of Demet’s family members.

Demet is expected back in court in April to enter a plea in the case.
