Free tax preparation services offered to those in need

MILWAUKEE -- The Social Development Commission is offering free tax preparation if your household earned less than $56,000 annually. It's the eleventh year they've been offering the service in Milwaukee.

The SDC kicked off its first Super Saturday March 31st. Several people took advantage of the free income tax preparation offered. So far, the organization has helped more than 6,000 people this year!

Barbara Stansberry says she appreciates the service. "Anyone who meets the guidelines, I would strongly encourage them to come down and get it done.  They are very friendly and helpful," Stansberry said.

The SDC says the program has helped residents recover more than $100 million in tax refunds and credits over the years. "I think it's a very good idea, and it helps a lot of people. Especially, during the economic difficulties people are facing at this time in their life," Sandra Collins said.

There's another opportunity to get free tax assistance on Saturday, April 14th at 2701 South Chase Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and 6848 North Teutonia Avenue.
