Milwaukee police say suspicious box not explosive device

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee police determined a cylinder-shaped object discarded in downtown Milwaukee was not a pipe bomb.

Several streets were blocked off early Tuesday, April 3rd because of concerns the object might be explosive. Police were called to the scene after a citizen saw the object leaning against a building and believed it was some type of explosive. The police department's hazardous device unit was summoned.

Capt. Don Gaglione says authorities determined the device was not explosive, but rather a large fuse from a power substation. He says a citizen apparently had the device in his or her vehicle and discarded it next to the building.
