Commission releases 2011 police "use of force" cases

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission released its report on "Use of force" cases from 2011 Thursday, April 5th.

The executive director of the commission went over the number of cases last year, and called it "statistically rare" for an officer to discharge a weapon.

In 15 cases in 2011, two suspects were killed and six others were wounded. In each case, all those involved had prior criminal records.

The Fire and Police Commission made a few recommendations for increased training to prevent future shootings. That includes training to help officers from accidentally firing their weapons, and training to help in those situations where a weapon is implied, but turns out to not exist.
