Dozens of cars vandalized near 59th & Burleigh in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- In two nights, cars on two city blocks were vandalized near 59th and Burleigh in Milwaukee. 23 vehicles were spray painted, and another seven cars had their tires slashed. Now, police are trying to find out who committed this vandalism.

The spray-painting happened on 54th Street just north of Locust. One victim, who only wanted to be identified as 'John' noticed his car was hit early Thursday morning, April 12th. "I got out and I see my car and a couple next to me, so I back down the street to see if the rest of the cars got it, and I see the whole block had it," he said.

The crimes got the attention of the neighborhood's alderman, Michael Murphy. He's talking to police about ways to stop the vandalism. "We can do a lot. What we can do is help support the neighborhood block watches. We can get additional patrols in there to patrol for the hours when we suspect this is occurring," Murphy said.

For now, police are asking residents to keep an eye out not only for their cars, but for their neighbors' vehicles as well. "There's no better line of defense than a good neighbor, and no better security system, no better group than that nosy neighbor, because you have several sets of eyes instead of that one set of eyes," Milwaukee Police Sgt. Rodney Washington said.
