Health Department: 133 confirmed cases of whooping cough

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Health Department has announced as of Thursday, May 10th there are 133 probable and confirmed cases of whooping cough in Milwaukee.

Health Department officials say the number could rise, as they have received numerous reports of pertussis cases and clusters in private and public school settings, daycares and universities in the past three weeks.

Symptoms include possible low grade fever, runny nose and persistent cough.

Residents are reminded there is a vaccine against pertussis and anyone not already inoculated should receive that immediately to protect themselves and those around them.

Vaccines can be received from your healthcare provider or the Milwaukee Health Department.
