Man tasered after threatening suicide on I-43 overpass

MILWAUKEE -- A 23-year-old Milwaukee man who was threatening suicide and standing on the outside of the fence on the Center St. overpass at I-43 is now safe.

The man climbed onto the fence shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday on the east side of the Center St. bridge. He slowly made his way to the west side of the bridge.

Members of both the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department and Milwaukee Police Department Crisis Intervention Teams negotiated with the man for almost an hour.

As the man approached the west end of the bridge and stood over a grassy embankment, he was tasered. Police took him into custody. The man was not hurt and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The northbound and southbound lanes of I-43 were shut down for about an hour during this incident.
