Art Museum proposing $15 million project for War Memorial Center

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Art Museum is proposing a $15 million project that would include a plan to help restore the War Memorial Center.

As part of the proposal, museum leaders would also like to take over the lease on the War Memorial Center, and give it a multi-million dollar upgrade.

Right now, Milwaukee County owns the War Memorial Center.

"We're glad to see an interest in renovating, but we have to see that those renovations are done in the appropriate manner," Milwaukee County Supervisor John Weishan said.

Museum leaders say they are prepared to raise $15 million for the renovations, $2 million of which could offset the $9.8 million in County money the museum will request.

Supervisors say there is no timeline yet for a decision.
