Judge denies request to delay Sandusky trial

(CNN) -- A judge Monday, May 21st denied a request to postpone the trial of a former Penn State assistant football coach on child sex assault charges.

Jerry Sandusky's trial is scheduled to begin on June 5th.

Sandusky has been under house arrest since December, when he was charged with sexually abusing 10 young boys over a 14-year period. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Sandusky's lawyer, Joe Amendola, filed a motion earlier this month asking for the trial to be delayed. He had made similar motions in the past.

Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge John Cleland denied the motion in a brief written ruling Monday.

The allegations against Sandusky led to the firing of Penn State's heralded head football coach Joe Paterno only months before he died of complications from lung cancer.

Tim Curley, Penn State's former athletic director, and Gary Schultz, a former university vice president who oversaw campus police, have been charged with perjury and failing to report an alleged 2002 sexual assault of a child. Both of them have pleaded not guilty, and their attorneys have said that prosecutors "charged this case before it knew the facts."
