One of Milwaukee County's top deputies under investigation

MILWAUKEE -- Maj. Nancy Evans is a top dog in the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. She's in charge of the largest department -- the Detention Services Bureau. And now, she's off the job.

The sheriff's office has confirmed Evans is on administrative leave while the department conducts a criminal investigation.

Sources tell FOX6 News the investigation centers around payments for work that was supposed to be done at the downtown Milwaukee jail that was never completed.

Evans' lawyer says his client claims she has done nothing wrong. He has not seen any of the allegations from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.

The Milwaukee Deputy Sheriff's Association is quickly jumping on the allegations, saying it is yet another example of one of Sheriff David Clarke's hand-picked leaders acting badly.

This would be the second scandal with high-ranking members in two months. In May, Sgt. Phillip Wentzel was charged with producing his own child pornography.

Evans has not been charged.
