Walker to declare State of Emergency after Superior flooding

MADISON -- Governor Scott Walker announced Tuesday, June 26th plans to declare a State of Emergency following heavy rain and flooding for Douglas, Ashland and Bayfield Counties.

Walker made the announcement after touring the Superior area with local officials and flood victims.

In a statement Tuesday, Gov. Walker said: “It’s always difficult to see the damage left behind once flood waters recede. Damage done in just a couple of days can take weeks or months to recover from.  We want to make sure we are doing everything we can to help move the process along.  I commend the people living in the Superior area, the friends and neighbors, who stepped up to help those most affected by the flooding.”

Excessive rains June 19 and 20 led to flood related damages at more than 500 homes and businesses. Public infrastructure including roads and culverts were also damaged or destroyed across the region.

The cost of the damage is estimated at more than $2.5 million.
