MILWAUKEE -- Development plans next to the Italian Community Center in downtown Milwaukee could mean major road construction in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward.

The Italian Community Center and Marcus Investments plans to develop the ICC parking lot into a mixed-use retail project. Both are also looking at a project to rebuild Harbor Drive in hopes of generating more traffic for the area.

The two-lane road runs past the Summerfest grounds and the ICC.

The proposal calls for expanding Harbor Drive into a four-lane boulevard and building a bridge over the Milwaukee River, connecting Polk Street and Florida Street in Walker's Point.

By adding the bridge and expanding the road, developers hope to eventually draw shoppers from beyond just downtown and the Third Ward.
