City leaders address safety concerns in Riverwest after shooting

MILWAUKEE -- Some Milwaukee city leaders addressed safety concerns in the Riverwest neighborhood after a man was shot outside Club Timbuktu on Saturday, June 30th.

42-year-old Ibrahim Assanna was shot and killed outside the club near Holton and Center.

Alderwoman Milele Coggs and Alderman Nik Kovac were joined by the Department of Neighborhood Services and members of the Milwaukee Police Department for a neighborhood walk-through Thursday afternoon.

They talked with residents in the area about safety concerns.

"One thing an event like this will do is stir up some of the opinions of the neighborhood of some of the problem houses or problem businesses nearby and generally there's a number of successful businesses that work very well with neighbors. One of the reasons we are having the walk-through today was just make sure all neighbors and business owners know the resources the city has," Kovac said.

Police are still searching for the suspect(s) who killed Assanna.
