Missing couple found safe in Milwaukee's Bay View neighborhood

MILWAUKEE -- Police say a couple reported missing early Thursday has been found safe in Milwaukee's Bay View neighborhood. They were found eating lunch at a restaurant when someone recognized them from news reports.

Relatives of Douglas (age 78) and Berna (age 83) Levy had last been seen at 8 p.m. July 5th at the home of a relative on Lake Drive in Fox Point. The Levys were headed to their home at St. John’s on the Lake on N. Prospect, but never arrived. They were reported missing to Milwaukee Police at 1 a.m. July 6th.

The couple apparently got lost and drove around all night, but stopped for breakfast and later lunch. They got directions from people but kept getting lost.

"They were like, 'Oh, we were afraid you'd be a little worried,' and I was like, 'More than a little, but I'm glad you're home," said Jed Levy, the son of Douglas and Berna.

The Levys had moved to Milwaukee from New Jersey in May -- so they're not entirely familiar with the streets.

"We were almost home and I turned to them and said 'you know you're
probably the top news story in Milwaukee, right?' They said 'oh, no.,' said Jed Levy.

Again, the Levys were found safe, healthy and in good spirits. They're just a little bit embarrassed by the entire experience.
