Walker administration to release deer czar's report

MADISON (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker's administration is set to release its so-called deer czar's much-anticipated report on Wisconsin deer management this week.

The Department of Administration is expected to release Texas-based researcher James Kroll's findings on Tuesday, July 10th.

The administration hired Kroll in October for $125,000 to review the state Department of Natural Resources' tactics. Walker promised on the campaign trail in 2010 to respond to hunters' complaints that the DNR's overzealous herd control programs have led to anemic hunts.

Kroll released a preliminary report in late March that broke little new ground, concluding the DNR's deer population estimates are flawed and the agency lacks credibility with hunters.
