Fans take in final day of Women's Open in Kohler

KOHLER -- The LPGA U.S. Women's Open wrapped up Sunday, July 8th at Blackwolf Run Golf Course in Kohler. FOX6 News found fans from near and far who came out to catch the golfers in action.

Whitney Hillier and Bre Elliott traveled to Wisconsin from Australia to take in the Women's Open. They won scholarships offered by the LPGA and native Aussie, Karrie Webb.

"She gave the top two girls in Australia scholarships to spend the week with her and stay with her, which is amazing. It's just one of those lifetime opportunities that we just gotta take advantage of," the girls said.

The girls said they hope soon, they'll see their names on leaderboards across the LPGA.

Jim Deegan of Greendale had a much shorter distance to travel to see the Women's Open wrap up Sunday, but says he noticed the diversity among spectators.

"It's been a great experience to see fans from all over the place -- China, Japan, Korea. It's just one good place for all the different countries to meet," Deegan said.

As they gathered near the clubhouses, fans from countries around the world sought autographs and pictures with players.

In three years, Kohler, Wisconsin will host another golf major. The PGA Championship is booked at Whistling Straits for August, 2015.
